ITLE's strives to incentivize CNU faculty from all of its six colleges to think about, innovate in, design and implement, and assess Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) projects that are learned-centered and enhance the teaching and learning environment. With this in mind, in 2019-2020, the “Health Education Grant Award” (HEGA) was created.
ITLE's HEGA program is a SOTL Seed Grant competition open to all CNU faculty on an annual basis. Interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary collaboration is highly encouraged with an emphasis on peer-learning and practice. In the year of its inception, HEGA provided up to $600 in funding, which was increased to up to ten awards of $1,000 for the 2020-2021 cycle.
Six CNU teams were awarded the inaugural 2019-2020 HEGA award. The names of the investigators and their funded projects appear below. ITLE is proud that the seed grant program resulted in the development of SOTL projects that came to be recognized through extramural and national awards. For example, the 2019 SOTL project submitted by Drs. Mohamad, Mente, and Kreys was further developed and resulted in national recognition for that team through the 2021 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Biological Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award. Similarly, the 2019 project submitted by Dr. Peter Tenerelli eventually resulted in an invited 2021 AACP Round Table session.
