Welcome to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) at California Northstate University (CNU)! Under the Office of Academic Affairs, the ORSP is the central administrative office for research and scholarly activities at CNU. As Director of the ORSP, I am responsible for the University’s research integrity, regulatory compliance and the overall guidance, execution and management of CNU’s sponsored research activities.
Research and relative scholarly activities are integral parts of career trajectories for the University’s faculty and students. One of the main impediments of producing good research outcomes and contributing to the scientific body of knowledge as a whole, is obtaining the financial support needed to fund these activities. Obtaining extramural grant funding from various sponsors, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other federal and state agencies, private foundations, or professional associations like the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), is a hallmark of a highly esteemed vitae for scientific researchers and essential for establishing a legendary footprint within the broader research community. However, we all know that the grant seeking landscape is highly competitive. And so in light of this, the ORSP proactively supports CNU faculty (and students) by providing training opportunities, resources, and services to foster skill building for producing compelling and award-winning grant proposals, authorship of curricula, and exceptional manuscripts for acceptance and publication from reputable scientific and education journals.
One of the core functions of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is to absorb or reduce the administrative burden that accompanies proposal preparation and management of awarded grants. This allows our faculty more time to focus on mentoring their students as well as guiding and performing their own research. And in order to achieve continued success in the production of this core function, we provide, what we commonly refer to as both pre- and post-award grant management services, which you will be able to learn more about on our site. Our Office also serves as a safeguard for all its stakeholders, including our faculty, by ensuring compliance with federal stipulations, sponsor requirements and University policy; and we do this to promote the integrity, continuity and longevity in conducting research.
We believe in what we do here at CNU and in the research and researchers that we support, and we do it with enthusiasm and purpose! Thank you for visiting with us!
